Metal Recovery
Produce economically viable smelting quality
- Ferrous metals (incl. stainless steel)
→ Up to 95 % recovery - Non-ferrous metals (incl. aluminium)
→ Up to 90 % recovery
Metals are particularly valuable raw materials. With us, you can even get most of the non-magnetic metals out of your bottom ash.
Which Metals Can I Recover?
Conventional processes can primarily extract magnetic metals from the rust ash using overband magnets. The majority of other metals are lost. With the IRRT process, you can not only recover a high percentage of non-ferrous metals, but also separate out valuable stainless steel and aluminium in high purity.

How Economical Is the Recovery?
The economic efficiency depends largely on the composition of your bottom ash. This varies not only depending on the country and region, but also on the previous waste treatment prior to incineration. In our test plant in Bispingen, however, metals worth an average of 90 € per tonne of bottom ash were separated from numerous analysed slags (metal prices from 2024). However, the metals can be sold on directly to the smelters without further treatment. This makes the process extremely economical.
Isn't Aluminium Chemically Decomposed in the Grate Ash?
The dynamic carbonation of the fresh slag using a drying drum prevents the decomposition of the aluminium. This step takes palce relatively early in the treatment process so that decomposition cannot progress very far. This is not the case with conventional processes, where the ash is stored for longer periods of time for carbonation.
