BRT HARTNER Presents ARCTOS Shredder

New solution from biomass to municipal solid waste

The on stationary recycling systems specialised machine manufacturer BRT HARTNER presented two new products at the IFAT in Munich: With the ARCTOS BM 36 and OM 36, the company will now offer high-performance multi-purpose pre-shredders for large batches of biomass, municipal solid waste (MSW), production waste and packaging waste, used tyres and many other kinds of waste. The new machines meet the latest standards as well as market requirements and expand the successful stationary shredding line.

New shredding line for a wide range of applications

With numerous improvements, the new ARCTOS shredding line seamlessly follows on from the Eggersmann TEUTON universal shredders. The first ARCTOS to be delivered is being used in a composting plant, where it shreds biomass under difficult conditions for infeed into a continuous digester. "With its total of 48 rotor teeth arranged in a spiral, the ARCTOS can perfectly prepare any form of biomass for fermentation or composting," explains Wolfram Zschiesche, responsible for sales and products for the new shredding technology from BRT HARTNER. "The degree of shredding, which can be adjusted in several stages, creates a particularly large surface area for the microorganisms and thus optimises the subsequent fermentation and composting process with a measurable acceleration." The ARCTOS BM are also designed for processing lightweight packaging and plastic. The ARCTOS OM, on the other hand, are constructed for heavy-duty applications – such as mixed municipal waste or used tyres – and therefore have twice the motor power with particularly high torque.

Large-volume material infeed

The new ARCTOS have loading widths of 3.8 m with intake widths of 3.6 m for optimum material infeed. This avoids the risk of bridging and ensures that even large materials can be fed via particularly wide wheel loader buckets. The large standard volume of the hopper results in a significant storage capacity. A serial substructure also ensures the appropriate feeding height and sufficient space for different conveyor belt widths.

Precise pre-definition of the final grain size

To pre-define the cutting gap between the rotor and counter tools, the hydraulically swing-out shredding hood has a cutting gap setting that can be adjusted in several stages without tools. This quickly adjustable system also significantly reduces maintenance time. Different variants of robust screen baskets ensure a defined degree of granulation of the material to be shredded. Both stripe and hex-shaped screen baskets are available in various sizes.

Design focused on efficiency

The rotor can be fitted with the special Twincut rotor tools without having to be changed in order to respond to difficult input batches such as used tyres or municipal waste containing textiles. The optional Twincut and the standard Multigrip tools are easy to replace due to the secure double screw connection, but can also be reused in the event of wear with a simple welding process on the flanks.
All other relevant wear elements of the ARCTOS shredders can also be replaced quickly. For example, the rotor has a multi-element Marathon plate segmentation, the counter tools consist of a segmented plug-in bolt system and the comb elements are individually bolted. This significantly increases machine availability.

Delivery and assembly are also particularly fast due to the modular design and enable a modern plug & play process. The machines can be shipped in standard freight containers and the control unit, which is housed in a separate power pack, is already pre-wired. It only needs to be set up.
